Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans with niche passions.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
