'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from distance, and the defender quickly hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This capped an extraordinary comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a next round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that far out," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who praised the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a strong mentality and focus just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has swiftly replicated that in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without much intensity. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that growth for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

His single match for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I realized I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
